Winter is here! With a few nice snowfalls and very cold temperatures the past 10 days of so the winter season is upon us – but that’s no reason to stay inside for the months to come. With better and more available gear winter camping is becoming ever more popular. With careful planning even the coldest of days (and nights) can bring rewards that only the great outdoors can provide.
According to the Adirondack Mountain Club; “ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) will open Johns Brook Lodge (JBL) to the public this winter for the first time in decades. Caretaker service will be offered at the lodge for up to 10 guests on weekends. Opening the lodge in the winter has been the vision of many dedicated volunteers and staff for the last 10 years. By opening the lodge during the winter ADK will be able to continue to support it’s mission of promoting responsible recreation and stewardship in the Johns Brook Valley” (https://www.adk.org/adk-will-open-johns-brook-lodge-this-winter/)
The ADK Winter Mountaineering School offers winter camping and hiking combination programs so you might want to take a look and see if you’re up for it. They also offer a Winter Mountaineering School. Go to https://www.winterschool.org/ for more information.
Be sure to dress warm and enjoy the Adirondacks all year long!
